Cool new illustrations

by lorendoolittle

It’s been so unusually hot here in Boston these last few days.  How hot is it?  It’s so hot that…… you can fill in the blank here.  That’s why we picked new illustrations for the Return Address Labels that make you feel cooler just looking at them.

There, don’t you feel better already?

Stay cool!

Farmer’s Market

by alicedoolittle

One of the very best things about spring is the re-opening of one of our favorite places – our local farmer’s market.  Like a reunion with a close friend you haven’t seen in far too long, the return of the Farmer’s Market market makes us giddy.  We joyfully recount all that we have missed in its absence and all that we love:  the colorful produce, the relationship with the farmers, watching the transitions of the seasons through the fruits and vegetables come to harvest and then finishing, the wild-foraged mushrooms, the fish so fresh you think it might still jump out of the bag, the still-warm eggs, the different shaped artisanal cheeses and the some of the goats that helped produce them, and all the other scrumptious goods you can find there. Most of all, we love the community that the farmer’s market creates and we are grateful for their hard work that makes our own meals so extraordinarily delicious.

As a child in Hong Kong, Felix made frequent visits to the market with his mother, where he learned how to tell good produce from bad, how to negotiate prices, and the value of speaking with the farmers and fishermen who were happy to share their knowledge with a curious young child.  The Farmer’s Market (and the playgrounds) are the piazzas of America – the places where the community gathers to experience a different sense of time, an increased willingness to connect with others, and to share.

Has your farmer’s market opened yet?  What are you most looking forward to?   We’ll be posting through the fall with pictures from our Farmer’s Market to share with you.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude

by alicedoolittle

We are huge fans of the artists Christo and his late wife Jeanne-Claude. While the pair are most famous for their ambitious grand-scale projects often involving fabric (they have wrapped a Roman wall, islands, and monuments), what Felix loves most are Christo’s drawings which are both carefully rendered and powerfully expressive.   Sales of these drawings are the sole source of funding for their multi-million dollar installations. Now that’s impressive!

Surrounded Islands, Florida

Running Fence, Marin and Sonoma Counties, California

The Gates, the Project for Central Park, New York City

We are particularly excited to see that after 20 years of planning, Christo’s project for the Arkansas River has been approved. Called, “Over The River,“ the project will feature fabric panels over large stretches of the Arkansas River. Construction is expected to begin next year and there will be a two-week exhibition in August 2015.

Will you be one of the lucky ones to see it in person?

Take a look at their website - christojeanneclaude.net  where you can see their many extraordinary completed and ongoing works.

The wrapping of Paris’s famous Pont Neuf is one of Felix’s favorite. Are you a fan of their work? Which is your favorite?
